Assalaamu alaykum,
We began the class today reviewing Al-Tawheed, specifically that the Pre-Islamic Arabs knew who Allah was and believed that he was the Creator, the Provider, and the one that manages all affairs. What made them disbelievers is that they still worshiped other gods besides him. The true Tawheed that makes us Muslims, is that we ONLY worship Allah. Please parents make sure your children know this well. The Tawheed we are called to is not Tawheed of Lordship (i.e. knowing that Allah is the Creator, Provider and the Sustainer), although it is very important, but most of mankind already know and believe this just like the Arabs before Islam. Rather we are called to ONLY worship Allah.
We also discussed that Islam was the message brought by all the prophets and not just Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him. We also discussed that the condition to be a Muslim throughout time has been the following:
1) Worship Allah ONLY as the one true god
2) Follow and obey the last messenger that was sent to you
So for example, the Jews that worshiped Allah only and believed in and obeyed Musaa as a messenger were the Muslims of their time. Just like now we Muslims are those who worship Allah only and follow the last and final messenger that was sent to mankind, Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him.
We also began reading Unit C, Chapter 4: Salat-ul-Jumu’ah: The Friday Prayer. Homework this week is to simply review this chapter with your children in preparation for this week’s class.
Jazaakum Allah khairan and see you all next Sunday in shaa Allah.
