Assalaamu alaykum,
Last Sunday we discussed in class why a Muslim should not celebrate Valentines Day and discussed the following reasons:
1) It has a pagin orign and Muslim whose most important attribute is being free from Shrik, does not associate themselves with anything that has pagan origins.
2) It is a celebration adopted by the Christians, that is why it is called SAINT Valientine’s Day. Catholics believe it is OK to pray to their dead saints to ask Allah for things on their behalf. This is clear shirk, something a Muslim is free off.
3) It is a Christian holiday and not a Muslim holiday. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, stated that every people has their festivals, and this (Eids) is our festival. Therefore festivals and celebrations are a characteristics of a people. We don not want to be from them (Christians) because Allah has already stated that we are the best nation arisen from mankind.
Please discuss this topic with your children and have them share what they learned.
School will be closed next week in shaa Allah. See you all on the 28th. Homework is for the students to review all the stories that we have discussed so far in class.
